OCHA: A massive influx of Sudanese refugees is exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in eastern Chad

February 20, 2024 (PEN) The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs confirmed that the situation in eastern Chad at the end of last January was characterized by a massive influx of Sudanese refugees fleeing violence in Sudan.

He stated that more than 550,000 people were displaced to eastern Chad to the provinces of Ouaddai, Sila, Oued Fira, and Ennedi East, noting the return of more than 139,000 Chadian migrants among the new arrivals.

According to the office, with the displacement processes, the deficit in the agricultural season in Chad, and the decline in the development of infrastructure and basic services, this leads to an exacerbation of the remaining humanitarian needs.
