OCHA: 27 civilians were killed and 130 others wounded in clashes in the city of El Fasher

May 12, 2024 (PEN) The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) confirmed the killing of at least 27 civilians and the wounding of 130 others during renewed clashes between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.

The office stated that Al-Fasher Southern Hospital, the only operating hospital in the state, lacks the medical supplies and medicines necessary to treat the wounded.

OCHA added that the displacement of people from the east and northwest of El Fasher city to areas south of the city has been reported.

According to the office, humanitarian access to El Fasher has been severely restricted after the Kosti supply route was disrupted since mid-December of last year, noting that months of escalating violence have hindered the flow of aid and basic goods, pushing people to the brink of famine.
