IGAD stresses the importance of coordinating diplomatic efforts to resolve the Sudanese crisis.

March 19, 2025 (PEN) Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), affirmed that unified negotiation efforts represent the best path to resolving the crisis in Sudan, stressing the need to coordinate diplomatic efforts among all stakeholders in the peace process.

In a tweet on the X platform, Gebeyehu said: "As the war in Sudan enters its second year, our focus remains with our Sudanese brothers and sisters. Ultimately, the peace process must be Sudanese-led and owned, ensuring the country's sovereignty."

His remarks came during the IGAD Special Envoys' Forum in Addis Ababa, where he emphasized the importance of concerted efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement. He also expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Japan for their financial support to enhance mediation capacities.
