UN: Conflict and bureaucratic obstacles hamper humanitarian relief in Sudan

June 10, 2025 (PEN) The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that humanitarian access in Sudan remains severely limited due to ongoing conflict, instability, bureaucratic obstacles, and attacks on civilian infrastructure.

The office stressed that expanding access is essential to deliver vital aid that saves the lives of millions of people trapped in hard-to-reach areas.

The report noted that conflict and administrative barriers continue to hamper relief operations, with many areas in Greater Darfur and Kordofan remaining beyond the reach of humanitarian access, exacerbating the suffering of populations in need.

He also explained that recent attacks in North Kordofan, which killed six health workers and injured fifteen others last May, reflect the scale of the risks facing relief teams.

In Khartoum State, the office revealed that delays in processing travel permits directly impact the response to the cholera epidemic, hampering efforts to limit its spread.
