The United Nations warns of a deteriorating humanitarian situation in Darfur and Kordofan.

June 17, 2025 (PEN) The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has expressed grave concern about the situation in parts of Darfur and Kordofan, where civilians continue to flee ongoing conflict and widespread insecurity.

The office noted that funding shortfalls and access constraints are placing significant pressure on humanitarian response efforts, noting that approximately 12,300 people were displaced between June 10 and 14 in North Darfur, South Kordofan, and West Kordofan states, according to the International Organization for Migration.

According to reports, approximately 1,000 people fled Abu Shouk camp and El Fasher, North Darfur, due to deteriorating security and economic conditions, and moved to other areas of El Fasher and Tawila locality, where the United Nations and its partners have intensified support for the new arrivals in recent months.

In South Kordofan, approximately 11,000 people were displaced from 10 villages in Al-Qoz locality between June 12 and 14, adding to more than 9,000 previously displaced people in the same area since May 29. Most of them moved to Shikan locality in North Kordofan state, while others sought refuge within South and West Kordofan states.

The Office reiterated its call for the protection of civilians, whether they choose to leave the area or remain there, stressing the need for unrestricted humanitarian access to ensure basic survival for those in need.
