The United Nations condemns the targeting of civilians in North Darfur.

October 13, 2025 (PEN) The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Denise Brown, condemned in the strongest terms the repeated and deliberate targeting of civilians in North Darfur, calling for an immediate cessation of attacks and respect for international humanitarian law.

Brown said in a statement that drone attacks targeted a site for internally displaced persons in a first-class neighborhood in El Fasher between the evening of October 10 and the morning of October 11. The attacks, believed to have been carried out by the Rapid Support Forces, resulted in the deaths of 57 civilians, including women and children.

She added that the Rapid Support Forces also launched a series of attacks between October 5 and 8, including an attack on the Saudi Hospital, the last major medical facility still operating in El Fasher. The attack killed 53 civilians, injured more than 60 others, and caused extensive damage to the hospital, which serves thousands of trapped civilians.

The UN official emphasized that hospitals, shelters, and places of refuge are not military targets, calling for comprehensive and impartial investigations and holding those responsible for these violations accountable.

Brown affirmed that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners will continue to support those affected in El Fasher and throughout Sudan, emphasizing that protecting civilians and enabling the humanitarian community to reach those in need are essential, adding that the people of Sudan desperately need an immediate end to the violence.
