The United Nations launches the humanitarian response plan in Sudan on Wednesday

2 February 2024 (pen) The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) confirmed that Under-Secretary-General Martin Griffiths and Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi will launch on Wednesday the Sudan Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan and the Sudan Regional Refugee Plan for 2024.

The office stated that the conflict in Sudan resulted in the death of more than 13,000 people and the displacement of 6 million internally, while 25 million people, including 14 million children, need urgent humanitarian assistance.

OCHA explained that 18 million people face the risk of acute hunger, indicating that the plan that will be launched aims to reach approximately 15 million people inside Sudan.

Sudan has been facing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis since the outbreak of the conflict on April 15 last year between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces.
