European Union: The humanitarian crisis in Sudan has reached a catastrophic level.

November 26, 2025 (pen) The European Union Commissioner for Equality and Crisis Management, Haja Habib, said that the humanitarian crisis in Sudan has reached a "catastrophic level".

This came in a speech on Wednesday during a session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg dedicated to discussing the situation in Sudan.

Lahbib pointed to rapidly increasing rates of hunger and malnutrition, violations of international humanitarian law, and escalating threats to civilians.

She drew attention to the events that took place in El Fasher after the Rapid Support Forces took control of the city, adding that what is happening in the Darfur and Kordofan regions is "particularly shocking".

She stressed the need to communicate with regional actors to put pressure on the parties to the conflict in Sudan.

She added: "We must take into account all interests and consider regional actors, including Turkey, based on the work of the quartet mechanism that includes the UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United States."

She stressed the importance of providing financial support and taking concrete steps to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, saying that "Sudan has turned into a real nightmare and a humanitarian disaster for its people."

She stated that more than 120 aid workers have been killed since the fighting broke out in 2023, making Sudan "one of the deadliest places in the world for aid workers."
