The European Union announces the start of Ambassador Wolfram Vetter's mission to Sudan.

October 15, 2025 (PEN) The European Union Delegation to Sudan announced the commencement of the duties of Ambassador Wolfram Vetter as Chargé d'Affaires and Head of Mission, amid the ongoing war and humanitarian crisis in Sudan since 2023.

In a press statement, Ambassador Wolfram Vetter said he was "honored" to represent the European Union in Sudan at this "unfortunate" time, stressing his and his team's determination to strengthen bilateral relations and "ensure that the people of Sudan are not forgotten or left behind in this time of uncertainty and distress."

According to Vitter, the European Union has played a pivotal role in recent years, particularly since the outbreak of war in 2023, in supporting the Sudanese people's efforts toward peace and development, through coordination with member states and regional and international partners.

The ambassador noted the European Union's commitment to "strengthening dialogue with various segments of the Sudanese population, especially the youth and women," considering them to represent "the future of Sudan and half of its society."

Vetter emphasized that the European Union seeks to expand humanitarian and development projects aimed at saving lives and creating realistic opportunities in areas such as food security, education, health, capacity building, and climate change.

In a related context, the head of the mission stressed that Sudan is a country of strategic importance to the European Union, given its rich natural and human resources and cultural diversity, which combines Arab, African, Islamic, and Christian cultures.

Vetter explained that Sudan's geographical location on the Red Sea and at the heart of the African continent reinforces the European Union's interest and commitment, adding, "We also recognize the positive impact of the Sudanese community residing in Europe, which has proven its presence as productive and influential communities."
