Clashes in West Kordofan force thousands of Sudanese families to flee

May 12, 2025 (Anadolu Agency) The International Organization for Migration announced on Monday that more than 7,000 Sudanese families were displaced from the cities of Al-Khawi and Al-Nahud in West Kordofan State (south), as a result of clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces on May 1 and 2.

The international organization reported in a statement that field teams tracking displacement movements estimated that 7,204 families were displaced from Al-Khawi and Al-Nahud in West Kordofan State due to worsening insecurity on May 1 and 2.

She explained that "the clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the city of Nahud led to the displacement of 5,451 families, while an estimated 1,678 families were displaced from Al-Khawi."

She stated that most of the displaced people were displaced to West Kordofan State and to North Kordofan State (south).

The statement indicated that displacement operations continue and that "the situation on the ground remains volatile and largely unpredictable."
