IOM: More than 1,000 people displaced by floods in River Nile State

August 28, 2025 (PEN) The United Nations Migration Organization announced that heavy rains and floods that hit River Nile State on August 27, 2025, displaced about 1,070 people after sweeping through a number of villages in the localities of Ad-Damar, Al-Mutamma, and Shendi.

The organization explained that the floods directly affected the villages of Al-Zudab Al-Salama, Al-Katiab, Al-Shadnab, and Abu Salim South in Ad-Damar locality, the village of Wad Hamid in Al-Matama locality, and the village of Hajar Al-Asal in Shendi locality, noting that 214 homes were completely destroyed and 415 homes were partially damaged.

She added that the displaced were forced to take shelter in the open or with host communities within their localities.
