Blinken discusses with Al-Burhan ending the conflict in Sudan and facilitating the arrival of aid

May 29, 2024 (PEN) US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated that US Secretary of State Anthony J. Blinken made a phone call yesterday with General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces.

Minister Blinken and General Burhan discussed the urgent need to end the ongoing conflict in Sudan, stressing the importance of enabling unimpeded humanitarian access, whether across borders or lines of contact, to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.

The two sides also discussed the resumption of negotiations within the framework of the Jeddah Platform, and Minister Blinken stressed the need to protect civilians and stop the escalation of hostilities, especially in El Fasher, North Darfur.
