American official: There will be direct and immediate consequences for those responsible for the attack on El Fasher

May 15, 2024 (PEN) The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that the city of El Fasher in Darfur is on the verge of a large-scale massacre.

In a tweet to (X), it urged the armed parties to stop the escalation and protect civilians at all costs.

She stressed the need for the Rapid Support Forces to lift the siege on the city, urging the armed forces to protect vital infrastructure. Greenfield confirmed that there are direct and immediate consequences for those responsible for the attack on El Fasher.

She added that the solution to this conflict will be reached at the negotiating table, not on the battlefield. Pointing out that both sides claim to liberate the country, while instead they are destroying it.
