A UN commissioner listens to the stories of displaced people in Sudan and calls for an immediate ceasefire

5 February 2024 (PEN) The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, explained that he spent a week listening to people whose “lives have been shattered by the civil war in Sudan.”

“If Sudanese military leaders truly care about their people, they should seek a ceasefire now,” Grandi said.

The UN Commissioner called for those in need to receive humanitarian aid without unnecessary obstacles.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees visits various cities in Sudan after his visit to the Chadian-Sudanese border, where he learned about the catastrophic humanitarian conditions experienced by displaced persons and refugees fleeing the war in Sudan.
