IGAD Executive Secretary: We look forward to a new year full of peace and prosperity despite challenges

December 29, 2024 (PEN) - In a New Year's message, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), stressed the importance of reflecting on the experiences and victories witnessed in the region during the past year, despite conflicts and tensions, most notably the ongoing crisis in Sudan, the devastating effects of which the people are still suffering.

Gebeyehu noted that the IGAD region has proven its resilience in the face of challenges, achieving remarkable progress that enhances the collective resolve and strength of the countries in the region.

The Executive Secretary stressed the importance of hope for the future and joint work to build new successes, address remaining challenges, and create better opportunities for the people of the region.

In concluding his message, Gebeyehu expressed his best wishes for peace, unity and prosperity for the people of the IGAD region in the New Year.
