The opening match of the Arab Cup between Algeria and Sudan ended in a goalless draw on Wednesday at the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium.

The two teams drew for the sixth time in 12 matches played between them, compared to four victories for Algeria and two for Sudan.

Both teams delivered a performance that did not reflect their potential, especially the Algerian team, which is seeking to retain the title it won in 2021 with a reserve squad.

Despite the relative control of the "Desert Warriors" over the proceedings, the opportunities were few, in contrast to the "Falcons of Jediane" relying on counter-attacks, before the situation turned upside down in the second half after the Sudanese team played with a numerical advantage, due to the expulsion of Adam Wanas before the end of the first half.

Adel Boulbina was the most active player in the "Greens" lineup, as he broke through and shot a powerful ball that rebounded off the foot of defender Mustafa Kerchoum and went out of play in the 25th minute.

Boulbena tried to reach the Sudanese net with a well-placed shot that goalkeeper Munjid Al-Nil brilliantly saved during the 43rd minute.

The Algerian team suffered a major blow before the halftime break, when striker Ounas was sent off for receiving his second yellow card within a few minutes, due to his reckless tackle on Jazouli Hussein (45+4).

The coaches' calculations changed in the second half following the expulsion, as the "Falcons of Jediane" players began to press forward, and Mohamed Abdel Rahman shot a ball that was deflected by the Algerian defense into a corner in the 48th minute.

The Sudanese continued their pressure, taking advantage of their numerical superiority and the Algerians' retreat to their own area. The most dangerous opportunity came for Abdul Raouf Yaqoub, who shot a long ball that went past the goal during the 70th minute.

Algerian goalkeeper Farid Chaal blocked a cross from Yaqoub with his foot, clearing it before Abdel Rahman could reach it in the 74th minute.

The Algerians tried to snatch victory in the remaining time by regaining control, but their attempts failed.
