OCHA announces an increase in the number of people fleeing the conflict in Sudan to South Sudan

November 9, 2023 (pen) The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that there is an increase in the number of new arrivals and Sudanese refugees in South Sudan.

OCHA stated that border control teams noticed a 49% increase in the number of new arrivals this week, and among those arriving in Gouda, 63% of them are Sudanese refugees seeking asylum and security.

The office stated that the reasons for this increase lie in the deteriorating security situation in Sudan, limited access to services, and fears of escalation of the conflict in other parts of Sudan.

It is noteworthy that since the outbreak of the ongoing conflict in Sudan since April 15, millions of people fleeing the violent conflict have sought refuge in countries neighboring Sudan.
