Nile water levels rise amid warnings of expected floods

September 25, 2025 (PEN) The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation predicted flooding in several states along the Nile, following a rise in Nile water levels due to heavy rains and the completion of the filling of the Jebel Awliya Dam, saying that Khartoum had reached flood level.

The ministry on Thursday warned citizens living along the Blue Nile, from Roseires to Khartoum, and along the Nile River, from Khartoum to Merowe, of this rise in water levels due to the increase in the Blue Nile, and urged them to take precautions.

On Wednesday, the ministry released an analysis of water levels at some stations for Tuesday and Wednesday, along with forecasts for Thursday. The analysis showed a rise in some areas still far from flood level, while the Blue Nile reached flood level at the Mak Nimr Kubra station.
