World Food Programme: Families trapped in El Fasher face starvation risk

August 5, 2025 (PEN) The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has warned of a worsening famine in El Fasher, North Darfur, stressing that families trapped there face the risk of starvation as fighting continues.

The program explained, in a tweet posted on the X platform, that the population is living in complete isolation due to the escalating armed conflict, and is waging a daily "battle for survival," warning that the continued disruption of humanitarian aid will lead to the loss of more lives.

He noted that the humanitarian crisis had reached its peak a year after famine was officially declared in North Darfur, calling for "immediate and sustained humanitarian access" to rescue civilians trapped inside the city.
