WFP: Aid convoy comes under fire in North Darfur

August 21, 2025 (PEN) - A World Food Programme convoy came under fire in North Darfur, destroying three trucks carrying life-saving aid, while the drivers escaped unharmed, said Sidney McCain, Executive Director of the Programme.

"Food for the hungry has been burned, and humanitarian workers delivering aid have been attacked," McCain added in a statement, stressing that these attacks "must stop immediately" and that all parties must ensure "safe and sustainable access" for humanitarian aid.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) stated in a statement that all drivers were safe despite the destruction of the three trucks, describing the attack as "unacceptable" and stressing that "humanitarian workers and their resources should never be a target."

The programme stressed that ensuring unhindered access to humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable families in Darfur and other famine-stricken areas is "crucial."
