The United Nations condemns the Rapid Support Forces' bombing of humanitarian facilities in El Fasher.

May 31, 2025 (PEN) - UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric expressed shock and concern over the repeated shelling and damage to World Food Programme facilities in El Fasher, Sudan, by the Rapid Support Forces.

At the daily press conference, Dujarric said that the World Food Programme issued a statement stating that its staff were not injured in the bombing.

He stressed the need not to target humanitarian workers, their property, operations, and supplies, adding, "This must stop now, especially in places like Sudan, where more than three million children suffer from malnutrition."

He stated that WFP colleagues are doing their utmost to expand food and nutrition assistance to reach seven million people monthly, prioritizing communities facing or at risk of famine.

He recalled that famine has been confirmed in ten locations in Sudan, including eight in North Darfur, including Zamzam camp, and two in the Western Nuba Mountains.

He added that 17 other areas, including parts of Darfur, the Nuba Mountains, Khartoum and Al-Jazeera, are at risk of famine.

"We can only emphasize that the only way forward is an immediate cessation of hostilities," Dujarric said.
