The United Nations welcomes the extension of the opening of the Adre crossing between Chad and Darfur.

May 15, 2025 (PEN) United Nations officials welcomed the decision to keep the Adré border crossing, linking eastern Chad and Darfur in Sudan, open for an additional three months, stressing that this decision represents good news for millions of affected people in the region.

Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, said the crossing will remain open for the movement of humanitarian workers and the delivery of vital supplies, describing it as a "vital lifeline" for millions of people in need since its reopening nearly eight months ago.

For her part, Clementine Nkweta Salami, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, commended the extension decision, noting that "the crossing remains the most direct and effective route for delivering life-saving aid to the most vulnerable in Darfur."
