January 1, 2026 (PEN) The United Nations announced the extension of the opening of the Adré border crossing between Chad and Sudan for an additional 3 months, allowing humanitarian aid to continue reaching millions of people in need in the Darfur region.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stressed that continued humanitarian access through the crossing is critical to saving lives and meeting the urgent needs of populations affected by conflict and difficult humanitarian situations.

For his part, Massad Boulos, senior US advisor on Arab and African affairs, called on all Sudanese parties to fulfill their commitments to ensure unhindered access for aid, and to work towards a humanitarian truce that would allow for the entry of more aid and the establishment of the foundations for lasting peace.
