The United Nations warns of escalating violence in Kordofan and Darfur.

December 9, 2025 (PEN) The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned of a sharp escalation in violence in the Kordofan and Darfur regions, stressing that civilians are bearing the brunt of these clashes, according to a statement issued by it.

The statement noted that the recent attacks on Thursday in Kalogi, South Kordofan, targeted a kindergarten and a hospital, resulting in the death of 114 people, including 63 children, and the injury of 35 others, while paramedics were attacked while transporting the wounded.

The office added that renewed violence on Friday and Saturday led to the displacement of hundreds of people from Kadugli locality in South Kordofan and Omran village in North Kordofan, while clashes in West Kordofan and West Darfur threatened civilians and destroyed markets and populated areas on vital supply lines.

In Blue Nile State, an attack on a major power station caused a widespread power outage in the capital, Damazin, with water and health services disrupted, while those fleeing violence in North Darfur and other areas face severe shortages of food, water, and basic services.

The office stressed that attacks on civilians and infrastructure are a clear violation of international humanitarian law, calling on all parties to protect civilians and ensure safe and unhindered access for humanitarian aid.

The UN office also urged the international community to step up support to ensure that life-saving aid reaches those in need.
