The International Criminal Court sentences a Janjaweed militia leader to 20 years in prison.

December 9, 2025 (PEN) Judges at the International Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced a Janjaweed militia leader to 20 years in prison for atrocities in Sudan's Darfur region.

According to Reuters, Ali Muhammad Ali Abd al-Rahman, also known as Ali Kushayb, was convicted in October on up to 27 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including murder, torture, orchestrating rape and other atrocities committed by the Janjaweed militia in Darfur more than 20 years ago.
