WHO calls for protection of health workers and patients in Sudan

August 21, 2025 (PEN) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, said in a tweet on Twitter that attacks on health facilities “put lives at risk and deprive people of access to essential health care.”

Tedros added that Doctors Without Borders (MSF) was forced to suspend its activities at Zalingei Hospital in Central Darfur following the recent attack, representing "a new blow to access to vital health services in the region."

The Director-General of the World Health Organization stressed the need to "stop attacks on health and protect health workers and patients."
