The World Health Organization is appalled by the killing of hundreds in an attack on a hospital in El Fasher.

October 29, 2025 (PEN) The World Health Organization expressed "deep horror and shock" following reports that more than 460 patients and companions were killed at the Saudi maternity hospital in El Fasher, following recent attacks and the abduction of health workers.

The organization explained in a statement that this attack comes as part of a long series of attacks on health care facilities in Sudan since the start of the conflict in April 2023, as 185 attacks have been documented, resulting in the death of 1,204 people and the injury of 416 others among workers and patients, while this year alone has witnessed 49 attacks resulting in the death of 966 people.

The World Health Organization called on all parties to the conflict to "immediately and unconditionally cease all attacks on healthcare," stressing the need to protect patients, healthcare workers, and medical facilities in accordance with international humanitarian law.
