Red Cross: We are deeply shocked by the killing of two humanitarian workers in North Darfur.

June 4, 2025 (PEN) Daniel Omay, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Sudan, expressed his deep shock at the tragic attack on a World Food Programme and UNICEF humanitarian convoy in North Darfur, which resulted in the deaths of five humanitarian workers and the injury of others while carrying out their humanitarian duties.

"We are deeply shocked by the tragic events in North Darfur, which resulted in the deaths of five humanitarian workers and the injury of several others while they were delivering life-saving aid," Omay said in a brief statement.

He stressed that "their mission was purely humanitarian," adding that "humanitarian workers must be protected at all times, everywhere."
