The International Committee of the Red Cross: Millions of Sudanese are unable to meet their basic needs

2 September 2023 (PEN) The current escalation in fighting in Sudan comes on top of years of fighting, instability and economic turmoil, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said.

Commodity prices have risen by more than 150 percent while farmers have lost their crops in climate shocks, the committee said.

The Red Cross said millions of Sudanese were unable to meet their basic needs.

Earlier, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) called for an urgent humanitarian response in Sudan as Sudanese suffer from dire conditions, adding that "the situation is deteriorating significantly."
