The UN High Commissioner for Refugees witnesses the tragedy of the displaced in Kassala and describes the crisis as “forgotten”

February 3, 2024 (PEN) The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, said that he met the displaced people of Kassala and the refugees who fled their country only to fall into the tragedy of this war.

Filippo added that the crisis that Sudan has been experiencing since the outbreak of the conflict on April 15 of last year remains a forgotten crisis.

The High Commissioner confirmed that most students have stopped going to schools and universities since mid-April, indicating that he visited the student housing in Kassala today and witnessed it being overcrowded with displaced people.

He said in his tweet to (X) : “War deprives an entire nation of its right to education.”

Sudan has been witnessing a state of humanitarian deterioration since mid-April, following the ongoing conflict between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces.
