The UK expresses concern about escalating sexual violence in Sudan

24 April 2024 (PEN) At a UN Security Council meeting, the UK Ambassador to the UN, Barbara Woodward, expressed grave concern about the worsening conflict-related sexual violence in Sudan. Woodward reviewed the alarming reports on this topic, stressing the UK’s support for partners in the care and protection of survivors of this violence.

Woodward stressed the need to stop sexual violence immediately and sustainably, and establish humanitarian corridors to ensure that aid reaches those in need. It also reaffirmed the call of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to take immediate action to stop the violence and find lasting solutions to the conflicts that affect the civilian population and aggravate the humanitarian situation in Sudan.
