US Welcomes Landing of First UN Humanitarian Flight in Kassala

November 22, 2024 (PEN) Tom Perriello, the U.S. special envoy to Sudan, welcomed news of the landing of the first U.N. humanitarian flight in the eastern Sudanese city of Kassala, noting that this development comes alongside the resumption of commercial flights this week.

Perillo stressed that expanding the scope of humanitarian assistance and increasing contact with the people of Sudan, including continuing humanitarian flights to Kadugli and Dongola, represents an important step, especially after his recent visit to Port Sudan.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Sudanese Sovereignty Council for facilitating the increased volume of emergency supplies, including food and medicine, to people in hard-to-reach areas within Sudan.
