UNICEF warns of a serious violation of children's rights in Sudan

December 6, 2025 (PEN) The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned of a grave violation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child after children were killed in an attack in South Kordofan, noting the deteriorating security situation and increasing humanitarian needs.

Reports indicate that a drone attack killed more than 10 children aged between five and seven at a kindergarten in Al-Qadir locality in Kadugli.

United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said the attacks on children in Sudan come amid a sharp deterioration in the security situation, at a time when medical and educational services are on the verge of collapse, while children are suffering from severe psychological stress.

The United Nations added that its efforts to provide support in Sudan are facing a shortage of resources, and UNICEF called on the international community to increase support to protect children and ensure that aid reaches all affected areas.
