Russia calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan

January 13, 2024 (PEN) The Russian Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov stressed the need to put an immediate end to the military and political crisis in Sudan.

This came in a meeting with the Sudanese Ambassador to Moscow, Mohammed al-Sarraj, where, according to the Russian News Agency (TASS), the conversation included an in-depth exchange of views on the ongoing political and military crisis in Sudan.

TASS added that the Russian side reaffirmed its principled position on the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the establishment of a broad national dialogue to ensure the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.

The meeting also addressed some current issues on further developing multidimensional Russian-Sudanese relations, including maintaining an active political dialogue and building cooperation in the trade, economic and humanitarian fields, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
