Cindy McCain: A severe humanitarian crisis threatens Sudan

1 June 2024 (PEN) Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Programme, has confirmed that the situation in Sudan is rapidly deteriorating, with 18 million people suffering from extreme hunger, including 3.6 million children suffering from acute malnutrition.

McCain stressed in her statement that "a humanitarian catastrophe is occurring in Sudan and the world is looking elsewhere." She pointed out that the lives of millions and the stability of the entire region are at stake, calling for urgent and immediate measures to address this worsening humanitarian crisis.
