Abdel-Aati and Rubio discuss ways to de-escalate tensions in Sudan

December 9, 2025 (PEN) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and his American counterpart Marco Rubio discussed regional developments, including the situations in Gaza and Sudan, during a telephone call, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

The statement said that Abdel-Aati stressed, with regard to the Sudanese file, the constants of the Egyptian position supporting the unity, stability and national institutions of Sudan.

He explained that the minister reviewed with his American counterpart the results of his recent visit to Khartoum on November 11.

According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdel-Aati stressed the need to unify international and regional efforts to advance the path of de-escalation in Sudan, pointing to the importance of reaching a ceasefire within the framework of the "Quartet" efforts, in addition to ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected.
