France condemns the Rapid Support Forces attacks in El Fasher and calls for those responsible to be held accountable.

October 30, 2025 (PEN) French Ambassador to the United Nations Jerome Bonnafont expressed his country's strong condemnation of the Rapid Support Forces' expansion and intensification of the attack in El Fasher, stressing that reports coming from the city "are reminiscent of the mass atrocities committed in Darfur twenty years ago."

During a UN Security Council session dedicated to discussing developments in Sudan, Bonafont condemned the attack on the Saudi maternity hospital, noting that initial reports from the World Health Organization indicated that approximately 460 people had been killed.

The French ambassador stressed the need to hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable, calling on the Security Council to "consider imposing new sanctions," while also emphasizing that there is no military solution to the conflict in Sudan.

Bonafont also called on all external parties to cease financial and military support to the warring parties, and urged compliance with the arms embargo imposed on Darfur, which the Council unanimously renewed last December.

The French diplomat explained that his country has been calling for more decisive action from the Security Council for months, stressing that the time has come to overcome the stalemate and take "concrete measures" to end the crisis.
