Qatar launches first phase of medical land bridge to Sudan

The medical convoy is loaded with emergency and life-saving medicines (Qatar Red Crescent).

February 11, 2026 (PEN) The Qatar Fund for Development, in cooperation with the Qatar Red Crescent, launched a humanitarian aid convoy consisting of 7 trucks loaded with emergency and life-saving medicines to support the health sector in Sudan, as part of the first phase of a Qatari land bridge carrying vital medicines worth 13.3 million riyals, which is expected to benefit more than half a million people in 12 states.

Both sides explained that the land bridge will continue in batches, as part of ongoing efforts to deliver medical supplies to the affected areas, and as a complement to the air, sea and land bridges that were previously launched to support those in need in Sudan.

In this context, Fatima Jaber Al-Ahbabi, Acting Deputy Director General of the Development Projects Sector at the Qatar Fund for Development, said that this cooperation reflects the State of Qatar’s commitment to supporting the Sudanese people in light of the health challenges resulting from the war, stressing that the Fund ensures the continued delivery of life-saving medical aid effectively.

For his part, Mohammed Badr Al-Sada, Assistant Secretary-General for Relief and International Development at the Qatar Red Crescent, stated that the Red Crescent is ready to implement the project through its office in Sudan, in cooperation with local authorities, noting that executive coordination will be carried out to deliver medicines to the targeted health centers, taking into account fair and immediate distribution.

According to RT, Mohammed Ahmed Al-Bashri, Assistant Secretary-General for Communication and Resource Development at the Qatar Red Crescent, said that the Qatar Red Crescent and the Qatar Fund for Development will operate more than 70 trucks as part of the land bridge, explaining that this step comes as a complement to the air, sea and land bridges to support the areas in need.
