Sudanese media outlets condemn Rapid Support Forces violations in El Fasher, Bara, and Umm Damm

October 29, 2025 (PEN) Sudanese media and press organizations, members of the “Life First” campaign, condemned what they described as the “horrific violations” committed by the “Rapid Support Forces” against civilians in the cities of El Fasher, Bara and Umm Damm, noting that these violations included killing, looting and terrorizing the residents in flagrant violation of humanitarian and international laws and norms.

In a joint statement, the organizations said they hold the Rapid Support Forces fully responsible for the crimes and violations taking place in these areas, calling for an immediate end to the killings and intimidation and for an independent and transparent investigation to ensure that those involved in these crimes are held accountable.

The statement stressed that what is happening represents a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions, particularly the Fourth Convention relating to the Protection of Civilians during Armed Conflicts, emphasizing that targeting unarmed civilians and displacing families constitutes a grave violation of the human right to life and security.

The organizations called for an immediate end to the war and an urgent humanitarian truce to allow the opening of safe corridors for the transfer of the wounded and the delivery of humanitarian aid, and to guarantee the protection of civilians in all areas affected by the conflict.

The institutions concluded their statement by affirming their commitment to their national and professional role in documenting violations and conveying the facts to the public, calling on civil and political forces to unite efforts to protect civilians and support the peaceful path to save Sudan from violence and division.
