UN official: Suffering in Sudan is "enormous"

August 7, 2025 (PEN) - The humanitarian suffering in Sudan is "enormous," said Edem Wosoorno, Director of Operations and Advocacy at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), stressing the need for unhindered access to those affected and urgent support.

Wusorno's statement came during a tour she is currently conducting in Sudan to assess the humanitarian situation. She explained that there are "people trapped, displaced, or returning to destruction," as she put it, stressing that relief teams are in dire need of urgent support to reach "those on the front lines of suffering."
