European Commissioner: Continued opening of Adre crossing is a "last ray of hope"

May 15, 2025 (PEN) European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, expressed her deep satisfaction with the decision to keep the Adré border crossing between eastern Chad and Darfur open, describing it as a "lifeline" for millions fleeing war.

In statements published following the extension, Habib said she had witnessed the continuous flow of women and children through the crossing, stressing that access to it was vital and, for many, represented "a last ray of hope and a glimpse of home."
