Nkwita Salami stresses need for funding to meet humanitarian needs in Sudan

1 January 2024 (PEN) – Clementine Nkwita Salami, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan, said humanitarian organizations have reached some 4.9 million people across Sudan through humanitarian aid since mid-April 2023.

Salami explained that this number is only one fifth of those who need humanitarian aid, stressing the need for access, funding and attention to reach more needy people in Sudan.

Since the fifteenth of April 2023, there has been a conflict in Sudan between the armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces, which has led to a catastrophic deterioration in the humanitarian situation.
