Washington calls on Sudanese parties to ensure humanitarian aid access

Massad Boulos asserted that the humanitarian truce paves the way for lasting peace (New York Times).

January 1, 2026 (PEN) The Anadolu News Agency reported that the United States called on all Sudanese parties on Wednesday to fulfill their obligations to ensure unhindered access for humanitarian aid, expressing its welcome for the decision of the Sudanese authorities to extend the opening of the Adré border crossing with Chad.

This came in a tweet by the US President’s Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, on the “X” platform, stressing that the decision represents an important step to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to millions affected by the ongoing conflict in the country.

According to Anadolu Agency, Sudan has been witnessing a conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023 due to a dispute over unifying the military institution, which has resulted in the killing of tens of thousands and the displacement of about 13 million people, and as a result, humanitarian needs have increased significantly.

Paul said: "With millions of Sudanese suffering and in dire need of assistance, measures to facilitate the delivery of aid are more urgent than ever."

He added: "All Sudanese parties must fulfill their obligations and immediately agree to a humanitarian truce that will enable the delivery of more aid and pave the way for lasting peace."
