The Committee to Protect Journalists calls for the release of a journalist detained in Sudan.

May 9, 2026 (PEN) The Committee to Protect Journalists called on the Rapid Support Forces to immediately release journalist Adam Ishaq Minan, who has been held captive since April 5, 2026, in Kutum, North Darfur, according to local journalists who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.

The committee's regional director, Sarah Gaddah, said that Minan's disappearance highlights the continued attacks on press freedom and the prevalence of impunity in Sudan, demanding that his whereabouts be revealed and that he be released unharmed.

Minan, a reporter for North Darfur Radio and Television, was arrested along with his brother before being transferred to El Fasher prison, amid fears that he would later be transferred to Dagris prison in Nyala, according to local journalists, one of whom works with the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate.

The committee noted that the whereabouts of at least 8 journalists remained unknown as of early May, amid escalating targeting since the outbreak of the war in April 2023.

The committee stated that it contacted the Rapid Support Forces to request a comment, but received no response.
