Egypt is discussing with the US ways to achieve a ceasefire in Sudan.

June 22, 2026 (PEN) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty discussed on Sunday with the US President’s Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, developments in Sudan and ways to reach a humanitarian truce that would pave the way for a sustainable ceasefire.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the meeting addressed a number of regional issues, including developments in the Sudanese crisis, where Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to stop the bloodshed and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people.

Abdel-Aati reviewed the Egyptian efforts aimed at supporting security and stability in Sudan, and preserving its unity, sovereignty and national institutions.

The Egyptian minister stressed the importance of supporting a comprehensive political process led and owned entirely by Sudanese people, which would contribute to ending the conflict and restoring stability in Sudan.

Sudan has been embroiled in a war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions both within the country and abroad. The United Nations describes the crisis in Sudan as one of the world's largest humanitarian crises.
