The implementation of 250 free heart and eye surgeries has begun at the Wad Madani Center with Qatari support.

June 28, 2026 (PEN) Federal Minister of Health, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, inaugurated open-heart surgery, pediatric catheterization, and eye surgeries at the Wad Madani Center for Heart Diseases and Surgery, as part of a project supported by Qatar Charity.

The project was launched in the presence of the Governor of Al-Jazirah, Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Qatari Embassy in Sudan, Abdullah Rashid Al-Khater, and the State Security Committee.

The project includes performing 50 cardiac catheterization procedures for children and 200 cataract removal operations free of charge.

Ibrahim said the camp reflects the return of the health system in the state to full capacity, noting Qatar’s contribution to the rehabilitation of hospitals and making the island a medical reference at the level of Sudan.

The Federal Minister of Health announced the resolution of issues related to the transfer of hospital affiliation and employee entitlements.

For his part, the governor of Al-Jazira said that the project alleviates the burdens on families, praising Qatar’s support through the Qatar Red Crescent and Qatar Charity, by providing food baskets, ambulances and medical supplies.

He added that the state has recovered its health and has become one of the leading states in providing services.

Al-Khater affirmed Qatar’s continued support for the health sector in Sudan, while the acting Minister of Health in Al-Jazirah State, Omar Al-Tay, said that the state has become the largest government health services complex in the country.

For his part, the director of the National Heart Center, Salah Al-Basha, confirmed that the Wad Madani center has become a national reference in heart diseases and surgery with the support of the state government and the Federal Ministry of Health.
