French parliamentarian condemns "heinous crimes" in El Fasher and El Geneina

May 11, 2026 (PEN) French parliamentarian Christophe Macro, during his visit to Sudan at the head of a parliamentary delegation, condemned what he described as "heinous crimes" that took place in the cities of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, and El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur.

Macro said that the two cities under the control of the Rapid Support Forces had witnessed a "tragedy and a crime against humanity amounting to ethnic cleansing," pledging to convey what he had seen of "massacres" to the international community and European parliaments.

Macron affirmed his country's support for the unity of Sudan, criticizing the European position by saying: "There are not enough voices to express the suffering of Darfur," and noting that Paris is "not satisfied with the violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces."

During the visit, doctors and witnesses conveyed to the French delegation the facts about the suffering of the population under siege, as the Al-Fashir South Hospital performed 12,000 surgical operations during 500 days of the siege, while the director of the Saudi hospital stated that 469 patients and companions were killed inside it.

The cities of El Fasher and El Geneina in the Darfur region have been experiencing deteriorating security and humanitarian conditions since the outbreak of war in April 2023, with widespread violations against civilians and infrastructure in the two cities.
