Countries and international organizations confirm that there is no military solution to the crisis in Sudan.

June 9, 2026 (PEN) The United States, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway and the United Kingdom, along with the African Union, the European Union, IGAD, the League of Arab States and the United Nations, expressed their deep concern about the ongoing catastrophic humanitarian consequences in Sudan since the outbreak of the conflict.

A joint statement issued on the occasion of the conclusion of the five-party consultations with Sudanese political parties in Addis Ababa from June 3 to 5 explained that millions of Sudanese are suffering from displacement, food insecurity and deteriorating access to basic services, amid continued violations against civilians and destruction of infrastructure.

The statement stressed that there is no military solution to the crisis in Sudan, emphasizing that "any sustainable settlement must be based on an inclusive political process led by civilian forces and reflecting the aspirations of the Sudanese people."

The statement welcomed the outcomes of the Berlin and Addis Ababa conferences issued by the civilian parties, considering them an important step towards strengthening international coordination and supporting a peaceful path led by civilian forces to reach a permanent solution in Sudan.
