Doctors Without Borders: Escalating attacks on marches in Sudan threaten civilians and humanitarian work

13 May 2026 (PEN) Doctors Without Borders warned of an alarming escalation in drone attacks across Sudan in recent weeks, saying that this escalation has killed and injured civilians, severely disrupted humanitarian operations, delayed the arrival of supplies, and restricted the movement of medical personnel.

The organization said that attacks are increasingly targeting areas where civilians gather and move around, including markets, hospitals, busy roads and public places, noting that some of them have occurred only 100 meters away from its teams working in the affected areas.

According to data from the International Organization for Migration, approximately 350 drone attacks have been recorded by parties to the conflict since the beginning of 2026, affecting areas in Kordofan, Darfur, White Nile, Blue Nile and other parts of the country.

The targets attacked included 31 roads, 28 public commercial facilities, 11 health facilities, 5 agricultural sites, and 4 educational facilities.

Doctors Without Borders explained that its teams continue to provide medical and humanitarian assistance to the population trapped in the conflict, but the escalation is severely disrupting the delivery of supplies and restricting the movement of aid workers.

She noted that attacks are increasingly occurring in the middle of the day and away from the front lines, deepening fear among local communities and making it more difficult to access health care, at a time when humanitarian needs are escalating.

The organization called on all parties to cease the indiscriminate use of drones, ensure the protection of civilians, health facilities and humanitarian workers, and guarantee safe and sustainable access for aid.
