Qatar affirms its continued humanitarian support for Sudan

May 7, 2026 (PEN) Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Mariam bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, affirmed Qatar’s continued humanitarian support for Sudan, particularly in the health sector, during her meeting with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to Sudan, Pekka Haavisto.

Al-Musnad said in a post on the “X” platform that she discussed with Haavisto the developments in Sudan, and the regional and international efforts supporting a comprehensive political solution that ends the suffering of the Sudanese people and preserves its unity, sovereignty and stability.

She added that Qatar will continue to stand by the Sudanese people, under the guidance of its leadership, stressing that protecting human beings and preserving their dignity must remain at the heart of any political and humanitarian effort.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on February 24, 2026, the appointment of Haavisto as successor to Ramtane Lamamra, to strengthen mediation efforts aimed at ending the conflict in Sudan.

Haavisto previously served as the European Union's special representative to Sudan from 2005 to 2007, and participated in the Darfur peace negotiations.
